As a Massage Therapist and Personal Trainer, I always joke about how people are always more happy to see me for a massage than they are for personal training.

I get it.

In the massage world, there is much less that needs to be done by the client. However, my massages require a lot of work from my clients via muscle energy. To show up for a Personal Training session means you have to endure a lot of strenuous exercises for sometimes up to an hour!

I also realize that, even though they aren’t always excited to come in, they never regret it. That’s because our members realize the benefits of what a well-planned personal training program can do for their life, and the results they’ll see. Therefore, in the end, that’s all that matters.

Unfortunately, though, Some days can be harder than others, which is why I want to make sure that all our members are well equipped with the tools they need to not only achieve phenomenal success but also to have fun doing it.

With that, here are some quick tips you can use to start your fitness journey.

Accept Yourself

Acknowledge the body you have today and appreciate all the things that it provides you. Not only that, but remember how resilient you are. Getting into the gym is tough, but doesn’t that go for anything worthwhile? Therefore, just do it.

Don’t think too much because then you’ll doubt yourself and fall into analysis paralysis. Then, before you know it you’ve found your life passing you by asking yourself “why?”

So, look at yourself out in the mirror. Sure, the first few times you may not always like what you see. But who cares. Look at it anyway. acknowledge your body and love it unconditionally.

After-all, without unconditional love, we cannot gain confidence and be truly happy. Besides, you never know what you’ll discover about yourself.

Set Some Goals

When we set goals for ourselves, we can hold ourselves accountable. Think about it, when’s the last time you told yourself you were going to make a significant change, only to forget about it and continue doing the same thing as usual.

Not only that, write your goals down and let your friends and family know. That’s because when everyone is in on the loop, they can support you that much more.

Just Do It

Procrastination is one of life’s struggles. It kills our ideas and dreams and creates a reality that we do not wish to have. Though, it’s how we’re wired.

Think about it.

At one time, we were out in the wild trying to survive. Our brains didn’t want us to explore difficult tasks as it could potentially kill us.

Therefore, we became wired to do only certain tasks and over time create habits.

That’s why it’s so tough to break our patterns and create any substantial change.

However, it’s not undoable.

In order for us to start something, we just got to do it. That means not thinking about the subject as much as possible before jumping in.

Because as soon as we start thinking about whatever it is we’re trying to do, our mind tricks us out of it.

So whatever it is, including starting your personal training journey, don’t worry about every single detail there is to know.

Then, once you get started, it’s much easier to keep going.

Another way to get started is to implement the five-second rule.

This rule, discovered by Mel Robbins, stipulates to do an action, you need to interrupt current patterns.

How do you do it?

Simple.

Set an intention to do something and then count backward from 5 to 1. What you’ll find is you’re able to do the tasks you once struggled with.

You can even practice by counting backward and then doing simple tasks, like walking to the other side of the room or grabbing an object.

Then, before you know it you’re accomplishing so many goals you once thought you could never achieve.

With that, I hope this post helped you gain a solid understanding of how you can mentally prepare for an exciting journey with personal training.
